NOV. 1: TAIPEI TO LOS ANGELES
Jading spaces
Our last day in Taiwan includes riding the MRT to the renowned National Palace Museum, an afternoon of haggling at the Jade Market and a quick visit to the monumental Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Then it's back to California, but never fear: There's still a November wedding reception in Fresno for friends and family who couldn't make the trip to Taiwan. Who says nuptial rites should last just a day?
HIGHLIGHTS
   * The Ch'ing Dynasty ivory miniature landscapes in the National Palace: one tiny palm-sized carving includes 34 human figures and nine boats.
  * One last lunch of dumplings!
  * Samantha's mom helping us bargain for jade.
  * Watching the changing of the guard at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial.
