APRIL 2005: EASTWARD BOUND
|
When I learned I'd be heading to Washington to cover two
Fresno State students competing in the national finals of the
Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, I decided
to add a week in New York and make it a true East Coast trip.
It was a chance to meet up with old friends both in Washington
and New York -- as well as go on one of my trademark culture
binges (seven musicals and five museums in New York alone).

Covering the Kennedy
From the finals of the American
College Theatre Festival to sushi in
Maryland, a whirlwind weekend in
the nation's capital.
Culture binge
So many plays, so little time. And
what about all those museums? From
"Avenue Q" to the new Museum of
Modern Art, lots to do in New York
City.
New York sights
The subway, Times Square, spring in
Central Park -- it's all part of the feel
of the city.
Friends and fellows
I get a chance in New York to catch
up with Josh, Anya, Allan, Andras,
Margo, Elizabeth and Juana.
Queer direction
Thanks to Josh, I get to spend an
afternoon on the set of "Queer Eye
for the Straight Guy." (See how it
helps to know the director?)
Back to D.C.
As if my New York binge isn't
enough, I train it back to D.C. for
one more day of sightseeing (at
NPR!) and hanging out with Scott
before heading home.
